Did Ultra Music Festival Just Reveal its Main Stage Design or Days Left Till a Phase 2 Announcement?
With a short forty-eight days between now and Ultra Music Festival—the unofficial commencement of festival season—impatience skyrockets to an all time high among UMF ticket holders as those preparing to attend the March 24th, 25th, and 26th event wait for the Miami based festival to unveil its phase two lineup.
UMF did not disappoint in the talent curated for the festival’s nineteenth iteration; phase one included various prominent names of the dance music genre, including Above & Beyond, Alesso, Major Lazer, Justice, and Hardwell, to touch on the very tip of the EDM iceberg spawned by Ultra. Yet dance music fiends, defined by their insatiable taste for beat drops and bass lines, want more, and Ultra appears to have answered to its fans’ desire, albeit in a vague manner.
Five blue diamond emojis appeared in a tweet posted to the UMF Twitter account on Friday, January 3rd. Those acquainted with the festival’s marketing—and tease—tactics know well enough that the tweet is not an errant emoji error. There are two ways in which the tweet may be read: the first alludes to a phase two announcement, while the second just might suggest the shape that the main stage will take this 2017.
If the arrangement of emojis is indeed in reference to forthcoming news regarding the phase two lineup of the festival, one may interpret the first row of two diamond emojis to signify “phase two,” and the succeeding row of three blue diamonds to mean that there are three short days existing prior to the announcement. The five diamonds may likewise indicate that there are five days until a phase two reveal.
Conversely, the grouping of emojis may provide a silhouette of what festival goers can expect from the festival’s 2017 main stage design. On February 24th of 2016, UMF tweeted a similar jumble of emojis, notably a series that indeed materialized in the form of the festival’s massive main stage, displayed below. Will the 2017 UMF main stage be a 24 karat diamond of design? Only time will tell.
