Change.org Petition Calls for Removal of Ultra and Rolling Loud From Bayfront Park
Having Ultra Music Festival and Rolling Loud Music Festival in one’s front or backyard would be a treat for many, but is currently materializing as more of a nuisance for some.
Miami residents have drafted a petition that calls for the two festivals’ relocation from Bayfront Park in the events’ following years of production. Initiated by the Miami Downtown Neighbors Alliance, the petition has garnered nearly 1,000 signatures since its release three weeks ago. The petition mentions a number of complaints related to the festivals’ production in Bayfront Park, focusing on the limitation of resident use of the public park due to the events hosted there; keep in mind that park use is not restricted in a mere three-day period for the festival, but for weeks prior to allow ample stage construction time, and time thereafter to deconstruct the structures.
“We, the residents of Downtown Miami and its neighboring communities deserve to have daily access to Bayfront Park—our neighborhood park. Instead, since the beginning of 2017, Bayfront Park has been closed to the public or in a state of disrepair for over 100 days because of mega-concerts like Ultra and Rolling Loud,” reads an excerpt of the petition, which can be read in full via the button below.
Ultra has set its sights on Bayfront Park for the celebration of its twentieth anniversary in 2018, a milestone that would be best suited to Bayfront Park, the event’s long term home. Whether the petition will carry any weight with respect to the festivals’ bookings will remain to be seen as the petition pervades the Internet.
