These are the Core Four EDM Artists Playing Panorama Festival

Festival goers have grown accustomed to “running wild” on Randall’s Island each Labor Day Weekend, where the return of New York’s Electric Zoo festival marks a three-day affair in which ravers tap into their inner animalistic natures. But from Friday, July 28th-Sunday, July 30th, Randall’s Island will attract a noticeably tamer crowd for the sequel to Panorama Festival’s 2016 inaugural edition, Panorama Festival 2017.

Presented by Goldenvoice and The Verge—those responsible for the yearly organization of California’s Coachella festival—Panorama seeks to channel Coachella’s aesthetic in its coupling of musical acts and artistic elements, yet delves deeper to additionally include the technological. Panorama 2016 accordingly hosted “Future Lab,” an interactive technological display available to festival attendees that explored “the possibilities of music and technology.” Defined by three distinct components—art, music, technology—Panorama strives to deepen the standard festival experience.

Panorama’s first installment yielded various high profile artists across various genres, i.e. Arcade Fire, Major Lazer, Kendrick Lamar, and Sia. Panorama maintains a diversity of musical entertainment in its 2017 lineup, a talent list that features Frank Ocean, Tame Impala, A Tribe Called Quest, and Solange as headliners. Call us predictable, but upon sight of the 2017 Panorama lineup, our eyes were not surprisingly drawn to the festival’s electronic dance music offerings. Here are our picks for Panorama’s “Core Four,” the four dance music entities that sparkle as the gems of the festival’s EDM bookings.

1.     Cashmere Cat: With three singles released from his forthcoming debut studio album, “Wild Love”—with the Gomez/Lanez “Trust Nobody,” emerging as the frontrunner of the three singles—Cashmere Cat is set to dominate the dance music scene this year. While Cashmere Cat fans impatiently await the announcement of the record’s release date, Cashmere Cat prolongs the news a bit longer, focusing instead on a recently announced 2017 tour. If not released prior to Panorama, some of “Wild Love’s” hits just may be revealed at Randall’s Island Park a bit early.

2. Justice: Fresh off the release of their third album, “Woman,” back in November of 2016, house/nu-disco/electronic rock duo, Justice, has made several appearances since, including a Pier 94 show in December. The French EDM duo has secured several Grammy nominations since their 2007 debut, making their Panorama booking one that is not to be missed.

3.     MØ:Lean On” proved to be the summer anthem of 2015, a single manufactured by certified hit makers, Major Lazer and DJ Snake. The throaty vocals that skyrocketed the single to top five status on charts in the U.S., U.K., and Austrailia were supplied by none other than Danish singer, MØ. If “Lean On” was your jam two-years ago, you’ll want to stop by MØ’s set. Preview another MØ track, a remake of Frank Ocean’s “Lost,” produced on Major Lazer’s 2015 “Peace is the Mission.”

4.     Hot Since 82: A staple of house music, the “Hot Since 82” moniker belongs to none other than Daley Padley, a British DJ working across house/deep house/tech house forms. Often found playing sets in Ibiza and Miami during Florida's infamous Miami Music Week, Padley’s appearance at Panorama will satiate the musical tastes of any house music enthusiast seeking a "Miami to Ibiza" experience sans the actual trip.
