New York City to Appoint Night Mayor Exclusively in Charge of City Nightlife
Its nightlife ever expanding, New York City has introduced a bill that will answer to the growing demands of its evening metropolitan scene. The bill will elect a Night Mayor whose administrative scope will span any and all nightlife related affairs; the Mayor will not only enforce safety regulations relative to DIY art spaces and warehouses, infamous as hosts to dance music events, but will collaborate with a council of officials elected to assist in the supervision of New York nightlife events.
New York's installation of a Night Mayor will mimic other cities' institutions of the same government official; Amsterdam, Paris, Zurich, and London have preceded New York in their addition of such a figure. The proposal for the position comes from New York City Councilman, Rafael Espinal, Espinal's proposal in pursuit of a sector of the New York government that will be dedicated exclusively to the management of New York's buzzing nightlife scene. The sector would function as the "primary liason" between New York's $10 billion nightlife industry and City Hall.
While the establishment of such a specialized sector will require time, the foundation of the governmental section will inevitably improve the safety and efficiency of New York's nightlife proceedings.
