BREAKING: Major Lazer Drops New Single Featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR & Nicki Minaj

In the group’s tendency to make only power moves, Major Lazer has joined with PARTYNEXTDOOR and the self proclaimed “queen of rap,” Nicki Minaj to produce what will be the trio’s next single, “Run Up.”

A track with a propensity to become an EDM anthem of 2017 given the single’s features, and of course, Major Lazer’s status as a dance music dynamo, “Run Up” dropped today after having been teased on Twitter by Lazer component, Diplo

Coupling the smooth vocals of "Not Nice" Canadian rapper, PARTYNEXTDOOR, to a tropical beat typical of Major Lazer's moombahton/reggae aesthetic, "Run Up" concludes in a verse spit by Nicki, aka "Barbie." The track is a noticeable, softer departure from Lazer's usual pumping bassline/loudly delivered vocal combo.

The “Boy Oh Boy” producer might benefit from a Twitter update featuring a spell check function it seems, or alternatively, perhaps Diplo had been indulging in a little too much Bacardi before tweeting track teasers. Major Lazer recently partnered with the spirits company for the “Sound of Rum” campaign, of which “Run Up” will surface as a “first taste” of what is to come musically for the Lazer/Bacardi match up. The Bacardi initiative will be the source of future exclusive Major Lazer releases.

“Run Up” emerges not only as a derivative of the “Sound of Rum” campaign, but as an indication that Major Lazer’s highly anticipated 2017 album—rumored to be called “Music is the Weapon”—is indeed in the works, if not nearly complete. The group has not released an EP since 2015, when Major Lazer dropped “Peace Is The Mission.”

Major Lazer has made a “Believer” of us, so we’ll be “watching out for this” new release accordingly. Listen to "Run Up" below.
