Want Intimate Exposure to Berlin's EDM Scene Without Booking a Trip? Then Watch This
Those seeking intimate exposure to Berlin’s dance music scene won’t need to break the bank in order to acquire such exposure, albeit secondhand.
A recent partnership between movie/show production source, New Form Digital, and distribution source, Go90 has resulted in “Lost Generation,” an online series of twelve-minute installments that debuted last week. Set to air a new online episode each Friday on “go90.com,” Lost Generation is a narrative drama centered around Berlin’s EDM culture. (The series may likewise be viewed on New Form Digital’s Youtube Channel, linked below.) The series couples the narrative thread of the female protagonist’s search for a missing friend [Russell] with the thread of Berlin’s enticing nightlife options and their inextricable link to dance music.
The quest to locate said missing friend yields a tangled web in which the female protagonist encounters temptation in various forms, i.e. recreational drug use, sexual affairs, and the pursuit of her own musical career. “Berlin is like starving artist paradise,” the voiceover in the trailer for Lost Generation announces, a quotation that expounds on the potential offered by Berlin for the success of an aspiring DJ/producer’s career, yet duly a statement that suggests the trouble to be met if such aspirations do not ultimately come to fruition.
Lost Generation is an ambitious venture, on account of its form—a web series—and its subject—of an underground nature, and therefore targeting a specific audience. But sometimes deviation from the monotony of Netflix is necessary, and Lost Generation emerges as the perfect outlet for such a departure from viewing norms. For those especially curious about Berlin’s dance music climate—the city is considered the “undisputed capital of techno”—Lost Generation allows viewers to keep their credit cards safely in their wallet and off of booking websites, if only for a little bit longer. A trip to Berlin, after all, is no small expense, but Lost Generation is free to view. The official trailer appears below.
