Kaskade Samples Whitney Houston in New Song in Honor of International Women's Day
Yesterday was International Women’s Day, a day’s significance not lost on the males of the EDM community, several of which paid tribute to women on social media yesterday. Diplo notably posted an Instagram collage of the faces of the various female singers and songwriters with whom he’s worked: “So many awesome women in my industry...I’ve been lucky to write songs with just a few of them…But honestly these ladies helped to create the artist I am,” the caption read, followed by the hashtag #internationalwomensday. Katy Perry, Beyonce, Britney Spears, and Camila Cabello’s faces appear in the collage, among those of other prominent women within the music industry.
While Diplo acknowledged the holiday via a heartfelt IG post, Kaskade took observance of the day one step further, silently releasing a new song without warning on his SoundCloud account, “Woman,” a soothing sample of the Whitney Houston classic, “Every Woman.” The song features Laura Lemn and S2_Cool, and in traditional Kaskade fashion, materializes as a track meticulously mastered. The quiet release of the Houston take not coincidentally on International Women’s Day has given us yet another reason to love the “Automatic” producer—as if one was ever necessary.
