Calvin Harris's Fifth Studio Album is Now Here
In an industry that is ever changing, Calvin Harris has managed to maintain consistency over the years, systematically evolving his sound, and pushing the boundaries of what may be called “dance music” with singles released early from his fifth studio album, Funk Wav. Bounces Vol. 1.
The fifth musical product from a dominant force in dance music, Funk Wav. Bounces Vol. 1 has now officially dropped, its June 30th release date a day anticipated by many Harris listeners since the album’s announcement months ago. Over the months, Harris has piqued the interest of the industry via the release of singles “Slide,” “Heatstroke,” “Rollin’,” and “Feels,” tracks that are noticeable departures from Harris’s previous embrace of powerful vocal hooks paired with thunderous drops. The four singles previously released by Harris in promotion of the album radiated a retro funk that Harris manipulated to synchronize with verses delivered by rappers like Migos and Big Sean, making for an ultimate layering of sound that could only best be described as “masterful.”
Now that the album has dropped, available for listening pleasure, a fuller sense of Harris’s vision for the album may be achieved by absorbing the songs not disclosed prior to the album’s release, including “Faking It,” “Hard to Love,” “Prayers Up,” “Holiday,” and the Nicki Minaj collab, “Skrt On Me.” The album may now be streamed on Spotify and Apple Music.
