Billboard Music Awards Will Feature The Chainsmokers & Halsey as Performers
With the annual Billboard Music Awards a mere ten-days away--the awards show will air live on Sunday, May 21st at 8 PM--Billboard has only continued to expand its roster of performers slated to play the event. Previously announced performers include Drake, Camila Cabello, Imagine Dragons, Florida Georgia Line, John Legend, Lorde, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj, and Ed Sheeran, a wide and diverse assortment of artists.
While hip hop/rap, country music, pop, singer/songwriter, and more are represented by the aforementioned performers, the event show has noticeably lacked dance music representation. In what is perhaps a nod to the previous lack of EDM artists slated to appear at the awards ceremony, Billboard has confirmed that American duo, The Chainsmokers, will perform, flanked by Halsey, notable for her collaboration on The Chainsmokers' smash hit, "Closer." Sam Hunt rounds out the new artist additions as the third artist to be installed on the lineup.
The Chainsmokers are nominated for Top Artist, aligned with Drake in their security of twenty-two total award nominations. The respective nominations place The Chainsmokers and Drake in the lead of award nominations for the 2017 edition of the Billboard Music Awards. "Closer" not surprisingly generated the majority of the nominations, including Top Hot 100 song.
Just how The Chainsmokers will perform with respect to award victories is yet to be seen, but the odds are looking good for Alex Pall and Drew Taggart.
