DJ Snake & Lil John Sued for "Turn Down For What"
Turn Down For…court. On Thursday, plaintiff Golden Crown Publishing filed a lawsuit against DJ Snake and Lil Jon, accusing the duo of copying the beat, chord progressions, and vocals from rapper Fredley Saurel’s same titled song, released in 2013.
“Turn Down For What” would be a landmark hit for DJ Snake and Lil John, receiving nominations at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards and 2015 Grammys. The song went on to go gold, selling 500,000+ copies.
Golden Crown Publishing is represented by Richard Busch, notable for his representation of the Gaye family with respect to the “Blurred Lines” copyright infringement case, and of the plaintiffs that appeared in court against Ed Sheeran over the singer’s hit, “Photograph.”
While the verdict will inevitably take some time in its delivery, in the meantime, check out both songs below to see if you notice overt similarities.
