Roasted? Deadmau5 Makes Some Heated Marshmello Related Comments on Twitter
How do we assume that Marshmello and Deadmau5 aren’t vegetarians? Their ongoing beef that started months ago, and has endured since. The Deadmau5 led feud gained its authenticity as a veritable feud when referenced by EDM producer, DJ, and songwriter, Skrillex in his October interview with Complex magazine. A key moment of the Skrillex/Complex interview occurred when Skrillex discussed the “only time” he “really got upset with Deadmau5.” The instance concerned the Marshmello and Deadmau5 bad blood that began shortly after Ultra Music Festival 2016, where Deadmau5 responded to various Mello tweets with cutting sarcasm intended to jolt the helmeted DJ. Skrillex’s distaste for Deadmau5’s aggressive responses propelled the producer to comment to Complex “Marshmello is this young kid who looks up to Deadmau5, and the first tweet he gets from Deadmau5 is talking shit about him [Marshmello]. That’s when I had to stand up and be like ‘stop being a fucking bully to people.’”
Unfortunately, the criticism from Skrillex did not appear to carry much weight for Deadmau5, who has continued to exhibit contempt for Marshmello. In a demonstration of Mello’s sense of humor, the opening scenes of the DJ’s “Alone” music video show the personified marshmallow feeding a mouse in a blue cage. As the camera pans, it focuses on the nametag attached to the cage, a tag that reads “Joel.” The scene is a humorous moment in the music video that is likewise a direct allusion to deadmau5’s identity. Needless to say, Deadmau5 did not find the reference comical, and had some choice words for Marshmello.
The flames of the feud have been fanned once more in the wake of the reveal of the Decadence NYE 2016 festival set times, where Deadmau5 has ironically been placed to play the slot directly before Marshmello. A fan noticed the irony of the set time positioning, and took to Twitter to comment on it. The exchange between the fan and Deadmau5 appears below.
Deadmau5's mocking response inspired dissatisfaction among supporters of both of the DJs on Twitter who felt conflicted upon viewing Deadmau5's condescending Marshmello directed tweet. One such fan addressed Deadmau5 regarding the Mello/Deadmau5 beef (pictured below), eliciting a statement from Marshmello that echoed his respect for and admiration of the "Imaginary Friends" producer:
Will Marshmello and Deadmau5 ever make friends? Such a forecast isn't likely, even at Decadence, for it appears that Deadmau5 has quite a sweet tooth, the marshmallow his favorite treat to sink his teeth into.
