3LAU, Baauer To Play Rutgers University's "Beats On The Banks"
As the academic calendar at colleges and universities around the nation places the semester on a temporary hold in observance of spring break, students swap deadlines for airlines to indulge in a week-long reprieve from the rigorous demands of their school schedules. Yet when the Caribbean baked tans begin to fade, the focus shifted back to grades at the finale of the sun soaked spring break affair, students at Rutgers University’s New Brunswick campus will find the fun of their spring break trips embodied by the university’s spring concert, “Beats on The Banks,” an event that has notably secured the talents of “Is It Love” producer, 3LAU, and "Harlem Shake" mastermind, Baauer.
An initiative spearheaded by the Rutgers University Programming Association, “RUPA,” Beats on the Banks exists as one of the 100-150 events organized for Rutgers students each year by RUPA. Beats on the Banks seeks to provide students with the opportunity to witness prominent DJs/artists debut on “the banks of the Raritan,” duly the event’s namesake, and Rutgers’ College Avenue campus location—where the concert is hosted each year—overlooking the Raritan river.
In previous years, the efforts of RUPA student leaders have led the university to secure performers across various genres: Rutgers accordingly witnessed EDM trio, Cash Cash, lead Beats on the Banks in its 2016 edition, Vic Mensa in its 2015 showing, Chance the Rapper in its 2014 version, and Alesso previously in 2013.
This year, “Blume” records visionary, 3LAU—perhaps best known for his recent 2016/2017 BLAU HAUS world tour—will become an honorary “Scarlet Knight” for the evening, joined by Bauuer, recognized for his smash collaboration with AlunaGeorge, “One Touch.” The Beats on the Banks 2017 talent roster for the spring event is arguably one of the best—if not the best—offered by RUPA; both producers surface as those deeply engrained in the EDM sphere, and furthermore, highly influential and well established therein. The 2017 booking recalls RUPA’s 2014 scheduling of “Middle” hit maker, DJ Snake, a presence in dance music that has considerably expanded since, topping charts then with “Turn Down for What,” and since with “You Know You Like It” and “Lean On.”
University students will have various options by which to attend the 3LAU/Baauer b2b throwdown, with tickets for the April 7th event available in floor—$20—and balcony—$15—forms. Tickets to the show will go on sale on Tuesday, March 21st at 2 PM and remain available only to Rutgers students, although students may purchase accompanying guest tickets at $30 for the floor location, and $25 for the balcony. With Rutgers designated as the “largest institution for higher education in New Jersey,” chances are you’ll know someone enrolled, so for those parties interested yet unaffiliated with Rutgers, now is the time to scour your Facebook friends list to recall which of those in your high school graduating class went to Rutgers.
We remain undecided on what appears to be currently sweeter--being a Rutgers undergrad in light of the Beats announcement, or the price of the tickets; if only entry to all dance music events could be priced as such--sigh.
