Avicii Subtly Signals Return to Dance Music in 2017 Via Website Update
2016 marked the end of Tim Bergling's--better known to fans as "Avicii"--booking of live performances. The announcement came on the heels of the "Levels" hit maker's various health issues, stemming from a 2014 gall bladder and appendix removal. In a lengthy and heartfelt letter to fans, Avicii explained his motive for retiring from the road, "I know I am blessed to be able to travel all around the world and perform," the DJ penned, "but I have too little left for the life of a real person behind the artist." Avicii's letter was duly a vehicle of announcement, but additionally a reality check to dance music fans everywhere: there is more to the performer than the set list.
"I will however never let go of music - I will continue to speak to my fans through it, Avicii wrote, signifying that while his name may not appear among the headliners on lineups anymore, he will steadily supply the genre with his offerings, albeit from a distance. New Avicii music has long been the topic of gossip, with speculation indicating that the Swedish producer is primed to release new material soon. Perhaps a silent confirmation of that suspicion, Avicii's official website underwent some noticeable renovations yesterday, where the pause that Avicii self administered in 2016 is reflected by a pause logo, yet onwards to 2017, that pause logo shifts to a play sign. Although subtle, the hint is clear enough to assert that Avicii will resume his music production this year.
