New Event: EDX Comes to Central Lounge, Astoria for "High On You" Tour
On Friday, January 6, 2017, Central Lounge of Astoria, Queens (located at 20-30 Steinway St.) will welcome Swiss DJ, EDX as the lounge’s headliner of the evening, the lounge being a stop on EDX's "High On You" tour, spanning 2016 and 2017. A so called “pioneer” of the nightlife scene in Queens, Central provides the intimate ambiance befitting of the house/progressive house music manufacturer. Those seeking a comfortable yet sophisticated setting for a rendezvous need look no further than Central; the lounge caters to all palates with a seasonal menu of “specialty drinks,” bottle service, and a full Greek & Mediterranean menu, making Central the ideal venue to visit with a date, or simply as a fan of EDX’s invigorating sound. The July booking is reflective of EDX’s fresh, summery style, a style mirrored by the Zurich born DJ’s twist on tropical/deep house DJ Sam Feldt’s 2015 remake of the 1990 Robyn track “Show Me Love.” Appearing under the title “Show Me Love, EDX’s Indian Summer Remix,” EDX’s remix gained a popularity among listeners that transcended the seasonality of its summer release on June 27, 2015. The song—undeniably catchy—became the “theme song” of Ultra’s 2015 Aftermovie, a UMF original video production that has attracted 5,309,887 views since its posting on the UMF TV channel of YouTube. If the song wasn’t bound to “blow up” volcano style itself—yet indeed, it was—it would grow in acclaim through its feature in the video.
“EDX” is a combination of letters quickly becoming as recognizable as “NYC.” Maurizio Colella, the man behind the alias “EDX,” is signed to the Spinnin’ record label, a label that boasts a diverse offering of talent, including The Magician, Oliver Heldens, and Calvin Harris. Yet EDX’s record label is not the sole factor to align the DJ among major names in EDM; EDX has worked with various EDM powerhouses, collaborating with Axwell (set to return to the Ultra 2016 main stage with Ingrosso this year), Kaskade, and former fellow SHM member, Steve Angello.
EDX produces a repertoire of collaborations as impressive as the music that he likewise produces. Evidence of his track record of DJ cooperation manifests in the release of his 2012 debut album, “On The Edge,” where the talent of “platinum selling artist” Nadia Ali, and Sam Obernik is implemented.
EDX will receive direct support from NYC native, Sam Allan. Allan works across the progressive house, deep house, tech house, and trance genres, making him a versatile DJ who is currently familiarizing the New York area with his musical capabilities. Allan draws inspiration from Above & Beyond and Norman Doray, but credits DJ Paul Van Dyke as his chief influential source in music production. As Allan seeks to evolve as an artist, he holds performances at Webster Hall and Pacha under his belt. Now, Allan will take on Central Lounge to show Astoria that he is a budding performer with no intention to slow down as he progresses in the industry.
Subscribers to Sirius XM Satellite Radio will find the event hosted at Central particularly appealing if they have sampled a taste of EDX’s style via the radio show that he hosts on Sirius XM’s Electric Area channel (channel 52), “No Xcuses.” The name of the radio show is relative to Central Lounge’s January 6th event, where given the exhilarating show expected by EDX, attendance warrants “no xcuses.”
