Live Nation to Sell "Festival Passport," Giving Access to 90+ Festivals
Festival season, for all the fun, is an undeniable drain on bank accounts, with 2-day and 3-day GA passes averaging about $250-$400 per festival, necessitating a selection factor among ravers, unable to afford each event that they may wish to attend.
In a "perfect world," ravers would pay a flat rate fee and in their payment, would gain access to a number of festivals, getting more “bang for their buck,” and in turn, expanding their musical horizons.
While the world certainly isn’t "perfect," it’s getting pretty damn close. Live Nation has unveiled its first ever Festival Passport, a pass that at a cost of $800, will unlock a myriad of festivals for the pass holder to attend, ranging from EDC Vegas and Orlando, to Governor’s Ball, Lollapalooza, HARD Summer, Bonnaroo, and many more, ranging from North American, to European, to Australian music festivals.
With one pass, pass holders will gain access to 90+ shows; for camping events, pass holders will be able to secure camping space at no cost simply by emailing Live Nation two weeks prior to the event. Similarly, even if the given festival that the pass holder seeks to attend is sold out, the pass holder will regardless receive a wrist band to the festival simply by presenting the pass at the box office/will call. The pass is a revolutionary development in festival season ticket sale design, yet will remain somewhat rare—Live Nation will only be offering 1,000 Festival Passports on May 22nd, where the passports will go on sale at 10 AM.
Irrefutably the most cost effective way to approach the 2017 festival season—the pass will only permit entry to 2017 festivals, “expiring” in 2018—those who secure a pass on the 22nd will gain bragging rights primed to last all year.
