Martin Garrix unveils new house music alias, "Ytram" [WATCH]

Ultra Europe would see Martin Garrix drop unreleased music; Tomorrowland’s opening weekend would witness the birth of a new alias altogether.

Tomorrowland attendees present at the STMPD Records showcase on Saturday wouldn’t find the Dutch DJ taking the decks under the name that has won him consistent acclaim for smash hits like “Animals,” but would rather find Garrix performing as “Ytram,” the house music entity newly developed by Garrix.

White mask clad, Garrix took the stage to deliver a gorgeous set comprised of house music hits. The new alias serves to spotlight Garrix’s versatility as both DJ and producer, Garrix having previously experimented with hip hop elements under his other moniker, AREA21. Made up of Garrix and American rapper, Maejor, AREA21 came to light in 2016 when Garrix wove the duo’s track “Spaceships” into his headlining appearance at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival.

Garrix’s debut as Ytram—notably “Marty” spelled backwards—signals not so much a shift in production aesthetic as an expansion. While time will prove the most useful tool in determining whether Garrix will release any Ytram branded house singles, watch a clip of Ytram’s Tomorrowland set below.
