LCD Soundsystem's Gavin Russom Talks Coming Out as Transgender in New Interview
Several dance music artists demonstrated their belonging to, or support of the LGBT community last month in honor of Pride Month, annually landmarked in the month of June. GRiZ, or Grant Kwiecinski, notably penned a raw Huffington Post OP-ED discussing his identification as a gay man, and the process involved in his coming to terms with his sexuality. Martin Garrix also wrote a love letter to the LGBTQ community. Both pieces can be accessed below.
The dance music community fosters acceptance and compassion, attributes that have for long rendered the scene a sort of safe haven for all, sexuality aside. LCD Soundsystem’s synthesizer technician, Gavin Russom, sat down with Pitchfork to discuss her transition into a transgender woman, and the intimate journey to claim her new identity. The interview exudes a comfort and confidence on Russom’s behalf, who confesses that she is ready to become a “…whole person.” The interview may be read via the button below.
